The Hotel Continental first opened in 1900, in a choice location where the city meets the sea. From 1905 the hotel served guests as the Seurahuone, accommodating prestigious visitors to the city and its popular summertime spa resort. Over the years the ownership changed from the city of Hanko to the Helkama family. The building was used for a variety of purposes as war came and went, and the spa culture faded from Hanko.
By the time the 21st century began, the hotel building had fallen from its former glory. Together with the National Board of Antiquities it was decided complete a full restoration, completed in 2012. No expense was spared. The stunning result embraces both history and modern techniques. The hotel reopened in 2013.
2017 will bring another exciting development to Hanko, as the spa culture returns with the opening of Hanko Seaside Spa. The new spa is situated on the Tehtanniemi peninsula, just two minutes’ walk from the hotel. Hotel Regatta will be responsible for the operation of the spa. Hotel guests will enjoy special access all year round.
